Sky High – a magical event that combines fashion and a taste of luxury and exclusivity that the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Manila Galleria of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has to offer together with the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines(FDAP), was held at the hotel helipad situated thirty two stories high above the ground. This may not have been the first fashion show on a helipad or roof deck, but it’s still not a common venue even for the veteran fashion spectators most especially for the two hotels’ IHG Business Rewards Club members who were the special guests of this exclusive event. The helipad that was launched as a new open air venue for events offered a 360 degree view of the vast Metro Manila skyline while the sunset gave a vermillion glow. Oh it was nature’s dramatic effect for a show! This had us all in awe at the lovely ambiance while we enjoyed dainty hors d’ ouvres and refreshments during cocktails. And when the dark skies enveloped the city, the lights were turned on that signalled the start of the FDAP fashion spectacle. The show directed by Ariel Atendido, featured a three to four piece collection of some FDAP members, each showcasing thematic creations. Russ Cuevas opened the runway with his lovely collection in stunning colors that echoed the sunset, Rowell Panlilio’s luxurious pleats evoked the power and luxurious lifestyle of an Egyptian aristocrat, Red Zurbano dressed up his dashing debonair jetsetters in noir and pristine whites while carrying DC Bayongs, Maikee de Leon let the wild stylish feline rule the city in cheetah prints, Don Cristobal had striking ensembles for the year round adventurista matched with DC Bayongs, Roxanne Hoey opted for structured minimalism perfect for an urbanite, James O Briant made pieces for the career-oriented dynamic fashionphile, Simon Ariel Vasquez gave leisure wear for men both a dapper and provocative appeal, Jhun Ador presented chic contemporary creations fused with local fabrics, and finally FDAP President Gil Granado ingeniously played with plaid prints for his wearable avant garde masterpieces. After the show, we capped our evening with a sumptuous buffet dinner together with the charming F&B Manager Gibeth Gloria and the designers at the Seven Corners restaurant of the Crowne. Oh what an indulgence of fashion and degustation! We were definitely on high!
